Casa, Corpo Sem Fim | A House as An Endless Body

The video A House as An Endless Body uses the body as instrument to measure the spatial qualities of the place, and the dance to explicit the concept of movement and dynamic relation with it. The sequence of spaces - and the related experiences - is one key element of the Endless House by Frederick Kiesler which inspired the video.

Casa, Corpo Sem Fim surge a partir do projecto Casa Sem Fim de Frederick Kiesler, que apresentava a casa como um organismo vivo, uma extensão do corpo, por oposição à casa como máquina de habitar enunciada por Le Corbusier. Kiesler escreve: A casa não é uma máquina, nem a máquina uma obra de arte. A casa é um organismo vivo e não um conjunto de materiais mortos. Ela é um ente vivo, no todo e nos pormenores. A casa é uma epiderme do corpo humano.

 

A House as An Endless Body had its origin in Frederick Kiesler’s Endless House, which shows an organicist approach to architectural space: the house as a living organism, an extension of the human body, as opposed to modern functionalist architecture, materialised in Le Corbusier’s house as a machine for living. Kiesler writes: The house is neither a machine nor a work of art. The house is a living organism, not just an arrangement of dead materials: it lives as a whole and in the details. The house is the skin of the human body.
